The MidWest Homes for Pets Critter Nation Single Unit cage offers a spacious and durable home for small animals like guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, and chinchillas. Its size (36" x 24" x 39") provides plenty of room for pets to explore, climb, and rest comfortably. Made from sturdy wire with a gray quartz finish, the cage is built to last and includes locking casters for easy movement and stability. The 0.5-inch wire spacing keeps pets safely inside while allowing good ventilation, which helps maintain fresh air flow.

Cleaning is straightforward thanks to full-width double doors and removable pans and shelves, which make litter and waste cleanup less of a chore. The adjustable shelf and included ramp with a protective cover add comfort and enrichment options for your pet, letting you customize their space. While designed for small animals, the cage’s vertical space and wire construction support natural climbing behaviors, though guinea pigs tend to prefer ground-level space, so consider if the height suits your pet’s needs.

Assembly requires following detailed instructions, which some may find a bit time-consuming. Also, the cage is fairly heavy at 59 pounds, so once set up, it’s best left in one place unless you use the casters. This cage is a solid choice for owners who want a safe, well-ventilated, and easy-to-clean home for a variety of small animals. If you have multiple large guinea pigs or prefer more floor space rather than vertical levels, you might want to explore wider, single-level cages. The cage’s quality and thoughtful design make it a reliable option for medium-sized pets needing a secure, enriching environment.

Betterhood Hamster Cage with Storage Cabinet, Guinea Pig Cage for Small Animals, Large Hamster Cage and Habitat with Easy View Acrylic Panels for Hamster, Rabbit, Guinea Pig, Hedgehog (39"x19"x40")

Size
It’s beautiful and spacious, but I do wish they had different sizes to choose from rather than just the one.
Material
The wood is beautiful and I have really no issues there. Only thing is that aside from the sizing, I would prefer a thicker, more glass-like front piece because the plexiglass bends with the bedding.
Design
The assembly wasn’t horrible, however, I do recommend building it in a larger room than the one you are putting it in since assembly requires a lot of space!
Ventilation
It works beautifully to keep my hamster enclosed! (Also, if you're giving proper bedding (6+ inches), keep in mind that the bedding might run into your ventilation slits when your hamster burrows!)
Ease of Cleaning
This cage doesn’t make me hate having another animal I have to take care of. Easy to clean, easy to play with guinea pig.

The Betterhood Hamster Cage with Storage Cabinet offers a generous amount of space, with dimensions of 39.4” x 19.7” x 40.5”. This size is suitable for not only hamsters but also guinea pigs, rabbits, and hedgehogs, providing plenty of room for toys, bedding, and other enrichment activities. The cage is made from high-quality melamine material, which ensures durability and a smooth finish. Its acrylic panels enhance visibility and ventilation, providing a fresh environment for your pet. The multiple openings on the side and back panels improve airflow, which is crucial for maintaining a healthy habitat.

One of its main strengths is the ease of cleaning, thanks to the removable drawer that simplifies maintenance. The drawer's design, with silver aluminum handles and limit strips, makes it easy to handle and minimizes mess. Assembly is also straightforward, with a clear step-by-step guide included. However, at 83.8 pounds, the cage is quite heavy, which might make it challenging to move around if needed.

Additionally, while the acrylic panels are great for visibility, they might not be as durable as metal bars when it comes to wear and tear over time. The cage’s design prioritizes visibility and ventilation but does not mention specific safety features, which could be a concern for some pet owners. If easy cleaning, spacious living, and good ventilation are your top priorities, this cage is a solid choice. However, if you need a highly portable or extremely durable option, you might want to consider other alternatives.

The PawHut Two-Story Small Animal Cage appears to be a versatile and practical option for small pet owners. Measuring 39.3L x 21.8W x 36.5H inches, it offers a spacious environment suitable for guinea pigs, chinchillas, and other small animals. The two-story design with a removable stand allows for flexibility in use, whether you want to place the cage on a table or the floor. This feature, along with the wheels, makes it easy to move around, which is convenient for cleaning or changing the pet's exposure to sunlight.

The inclusion of an elevated platform within the cage helps create a private space for your pet, which can be beneficial for their comfort. Additionally, it comes with useful accessories like a food dish, hay feeder, and water bottle. The material used, a combination of polypropylene and metal, ensures durability and a sturdy construction. However, the bar spacing of 0.75 inches should be noted to ensure it is suitable for your specific pet, especially smaller breeds.

One potential drawback could be the assembly requirement, which may be a bit challenging for some users. Additionally, while the cage is portable and spacious, its size might be unwieldy for very small living spaces. Safety features seem adequate with secure bar spacing and a stable design. The lower shelf storage offers a practical solution for keeping pet supplies organized and within reach. Given its design and features, this cage would be particularly beneficial for small pet owners looking for a spacious, flexible, and easy-to-move habitat.

Buying Guide for the Best Guinea Pig Cages

Choosing the right guinea pig cage is crucial for the health and happiness of your pet. A good cage provides enough space, proper ventilation, and easy access for cleaning and feeding. When selecting a cage, consider the size, material, design, and additional features that will best suit your guinea pig's needs and your living situation.
SizeSize is one of the most important factors when choosing a guinea pig cage. Guinea pigs need plenty of space to move around, exercise, and explore. A larger cage promotes better physical and mental health for your pet. For one guinea pig, a minimum of 7.5 square feet is recommended, but more space is always better. If you have multiple guinea pigs, increase the size accordingly. Consider your available space at home and ensure the cage fits comfortably while providing ample room for your pet.
MaterialThe material of the cage affects its durability, ease of cleaning, and safety for your guinea pig. Common materials include wire, plastic, and glass. Wire cages with a solid bottom are popular because they provide good ventilation and are easy to clean. Plastic cages can be more enclosed, which might limit ventilation but can offer more protection from drafts. Glass aquariums are not recommended as they can restrict airflow and cause respiratory issues. Choose a material that balances durability, ease of maintenance, and safety for your pet.
DesignThe design of the cage includes its shape, layout, and accessibility. A well-designed cage should have multiple access points for easy cleaning and feeding. Look for cages with large doors or removable tops. Multi-level cages can provide additional space, but ensure ramps and platforms are safe and easy for your guinea pig to navigate. Consider how the design will fit into your home and how easy it will be to interact with your pet.
VentilationProper ventilation is essential to prevent respiratory issues and maintain a healthy environment for your guinea pig. Cages with wire sides offer the best airflow, while fully enclosed plastic cages may limit ventilation. Ensure there are enough openings to allow fresh air to circulate. Avoid placing the cage in areas with poor air quality or high humidity. Good ventilation helps keep the cage dry and reduces the risk of mold and bacteria growth.
Ease of CleaningA cage that is easy to clean will save you time and effort while ensuring your guinea pig's environment remains hygienic. Look for cages with removable trays or bottoms that can be easily taken out and cleaned. Smooth surfaces are easier to wipe down than textured ones. Consider how often you will need to clean the cage and choose a design that makes this task as simple as possible. Regular cleaning is essential to prevent odors and maintain your pet's health.
Safety FeaturesSafety features are crucial to protect your guinea pig from injury and escape. Ensure the cage has secure latches and no sharp edges or gaps that could harm your pet. The spacing between the bars should be small enough to prevent your guinea pig from squeezing through or getting stuck. Check for any potential hazards inside the cage, such as loose parts or unstable platforms. A safe cage provides peace of mind and a secure environment for your guinea pig.
Additional FeaturesAdditional features can enhance your guinea pig's living experience and make your life easier. Look for cages with built-in hideouts, ramps, and tunnels to provide enrichment and stimulation for your pet. Some cages come with accessories like water bottles, food dishes, and hay racks. Consider what features will benefit your guinea pig and fit your lifestyle. Extra features can make the cage more enjoyable for your pet and more convenient for you.
